Skyes very own Best of British

Jans Mica Hardware based in Portree, Isle of Skye, has won the prestigious Silver award of Britain's best Hardware retailer at a star studded event at the Manchester Hilton this month.

The store in Portree was orginally established over 30 years ago, and now is based in a modern 17500 square foot purpose built premises, employing 15 staff.

Managing Director Mr Jan Nicolson said,"We are absolutely delighted to win this award and it provides well deserved recognition to the hard work of all our staff. To receive an award alongside major retailers such as B&Q, Homebase, Wickes and Lakeland, shows that a small independent retailer based on the Isle of Skye can truly punch above it's weight.

The judges at the awards ceremony recognised the Portree based store's strong focus on customer care, with a bright and welcoming shop, strong lighting, extra large car park spaces, and a '5 star' toilet available to customers.

The store also contains a 'wishing well' where money is collected for charities such as Cancer Research, Highland Hospice and Crossroads Care.

The award to Jans Mica Hardware was presented by actress, comedienne and ventriloquist Nina Conti.
